A Puppy Was Found Gasping Inside a Playground Tunnel — What Vets Discovered Left Rescuers Horrified

A severely injured puppy is fighting for his life after being found collapsed inside a children’s playground tunnel in Georgia.

NYC Second Chance Rescue said it received an emergency plea from a shelter partner on Monday after the puppy, now named Andy, was discovered unable to walk, stand, or move. He was gasping for air when animal control officers arrived.

Rescuers believe Andy had been deliberately left inside the tunnel.

After being rushed to a local shelter, radiographs revealed that Andy had a collapsed lung. Veterinarians believe the injury was caused by significant blunt force trauma. According to the rescue, doctors do not believe his injuries were caused by a car accident or an attack from another dog.

Andy’s oxygen level was only 74% when he was first examined. The local shelter veterinarian worked to relieve pressure around his lungs before he was transferred to the nearest emergency hospital, more than 40 minutes away.

Once at the hospital, Andy was placed under emergency treatment. He remains in critical condition and is currently dependent on 40% oxygen to breathe.

Doctors have also confirmed that Andy suffered a traumatic brain injury. His medical team started him on medication to help reduce dangerous swelling and pressure around his brain. One of his eyes may be permanently damaged from the impact, and it is still unclear whether it can be saved.

Andy also has severe lung contusions, making every breath difficult.

Despite the seriousness of his condition, rescuers say they are not giving up. In a recent update, Andy lifted his head — a small movement, but one that gave his care team hope.

Animal Control and law enforcement have been notified and are actively investigating. Officials are reviewing the location where Andy was found and searching for any possible surveillance footage.

Andy’s condition remains uncertain, but rescuers say one thing matters most right now: he is no longer alone in that tunnel, struggling to breathe without help.

The tiny puppy is still fighting to survive.
