Sarah always knew her Husky had one strange bedtime habit.
Every night before sleeping, he had to bring his favorite toy with him: a long, worn-out stuffed snake. He would carry it onto the bed, place it beside Sarah’s pillow, and only then curl up peacefully for the night.
At first, Sarah thought it was adorable.
Until one night, the “toy” moved.
At around 2 a.m., Sarah suddenly woke up to the feeling of something cold sliding across her leg. Still half asleep, she thought the blanket had slipped. But seconds later, the cold thing moved again, slowly gliding over the bedsheet.
She opened her eyes.
Her Husky was standing beside her, ears straight up, looking proud as if he had just completed an important mission.
But in his mouth was not the old stuffed snake.
It was a real snake.
Sarah screamed so loudly the room seemed to explode.
The snake dropped onto the pillow and curled up in the white sheets. Her Husky just stood there, completely confused, unable to understand why his “gift” had caused such panic. To him, it was probably just a more realistic version of his favorite toy.
But to Sarah, it was the most terrifying wake-up call of her life.
She jumped out of bed, dragging the blanket with her, shaking as she called for help. The Husky thought she was starting a game, so he jumped down too, wagging his tail, ready to pick up his “gift” again.
That was when the moment became truly frightening.
Sarah had to shout to stop him, because one wrong bite could have sent the snake striking straight at his face.
Luckily, the snake was later removed from the house safely. It turned out to be a harmless garden snake, but that did not make Sarah feel any less shaken. For a few terrifying seconds, she had woken up with a live snake on her bed, right next to the proud face of a dog who looked like he had saved the world.
From that night on, Sarah put the stuffed snake away.
As for the Husky?
He still had no idea what he had done wrong.
All he knew was that, that night, he brought the most special gift to the person he loved most.
And nearly made her faint in her own bed.
