He was only 8 weeks old.
When the tiny pit bull puppy was found on the street, his body weighed just 8 pounds — far too small, far too fragile, and far too young to have endured so much pain.
The rescuers named him Oliver.
No one knew where Oliver had come from. No one knew how long he had been alone. But when he was rushed to the hospital, it became clear that this little puppy had been suffering terribly.
Oliver had severe trauma to his head. His gums were badly torn, and his tiny jaw was broken in several places. He was weak, exhausted, and in so much discomfort that even eating had become a struggle.
What broke everyone’s heart even more was the possibility that Oliver had been living with this pain for some time. His bloodwork showed signs that his little body had already been fighting infection. He had a fever. He was lethargic. And still, somehow, he kept holding on.
Doctors immediately began urgent care, giving him fluids, antibiotics, and pain medication before rushing him into surgery.
The surgery was successful, even though Oliver’s injuries were serious and some of the fractures appeared older. Now, his tiny jaw is being held steady with a wire and supportive muzzle while it heals.
Oliver still has a difficult road ahead. He is having trouble eating and will need soft food, medication, follow-up care, and patient hands to help him recover. His jaw may never heal perfectly, but doctors believe this brave little puppy has a real chance.
No one understands why someone would hurt a helpless baby and then leave him alone on the street.
But Oliver is no longer alone.
He is safe now. He is being cared for. And for the first time in what may have been a very painful life, this tiny puppy is surrounded by the comfort and kindness he should have known from the beginning.
Oliver has suffered more than any puppy ever should.
Now, he deserves healing, love, and a future where no one ever hurts him again.
