A Birthday With Mud on My Fur
Today was my birthday, but I did not look like a dog anyone would celebrate.
My fur was tangled, muddy, and far from the shiny coat I wished I had. I looked tired. I looked forgotten. Maybe some people would pass by and only see the dirt.
But inside, my heart was still hopeful.
I knew this day was special. More than anything, I wanted it to become the day someone finally saw me and chose me.
I Was Waiting for Someone to Look Closer
As I wagged my tail and lifted my eyes, I imagined a kind person stopping in front of me.
I hoped they would not turn away because of my dirty fur. I hoped they would look past the mud and see the dog underneath — gentle, loyal, and ready to love with everything I had.
I did not want to be judged by how I looked on my hardest day.
I wanted someone to see what I could become with care, patience, and a home.
My Birthday Wish Was Simple
I dreamed of my future owner kneeling beside me with a soft smile.
Maybe they would whisper, “Happy birthday,” then gently clean the mud from my fur. Maybe they would touch my head and let me know I was no longer alone.
I did not need a big party.
I did not need fancy gifts.
I only wanted to feel wanted.
Dirty Fur, Clean Heart
Even though I looked messy, my heart was still full of love.
I was still the kind of dog who would follow someone from room to room, rest my head beside them, and greet them with joy every time they came home.
The dirt on my body could be washed away.
But the love inside me had never disappeared.
I Still Believe My Person Is Out There
On my birthday, I made one quiet wish.
I wished for someone who would not see a dirty dog and walk away. I wished for someone who would see a lonely soul waiting for a chance.
Someone who would celebrate me as I am.
Someone who would help me become happy again.
Someone who would finally give me the one thing I have always wanted:
a place to call home.
