He turned fifteen today.
The candles glowed in front of him, small and warm, but his cloudy eyes could no longer see them the way they once could. His face had grown gray. His ears hung softer now. His steps were slower, and some days his tired body needed more rest than play.
But when the cake was brought close, he lifted his head.
Not because he understood the number.
