More Than 100 Animals Were Rescued From Cramped Wire Cages — Now They Need Homes Before Shelters Overflow

by Ack1fastonlinevn

More than 100 animals in Tucson had spent their lives trapped in conditions no living creature should have to endure.

They were found inside a home, confined to small wire crates, with barely enough food or water to survive. Many of them were small-breed dogs, including pugs and Yorkies. There were also three cats, livestock animals, and a Patagonian mara.

For these animals, life had been reduced to cages.

No room to run.

No comfort.

No real freedom.

Just wire beneath them, hunger around them, and days spent waiting in a place where their basic needs had not been met.

Pima Animal Care Center stepped in after its Animal Protection team saw the life-threatening conditions. They could not turn away from animals who had been living in such severe neglect, so they removed them and brought them into care.

But saving them was only the first step.

Now PACC is facing the enormous task of helping more than 100 rescued animals recover, receive medical clearance, and eventually find foster or adoptive homes. The shelter was already caring for many dogs before this case, making the need for community support even more urgent.

As soon as the rescued animals are cleared by clinical staff, many will become available for foster or adoption at the main shelter. Others will be moved to PACC’s new Eastside PACC Adoption Center, set to open on June 1, 2026. The Patagonian mara has already found placement.

For the dogs and cats still waiting, the next chapter depends on people willing to help.

Some will need patience.

Some will need medical care.

Some may need time to learn that life can be more than a cage.

Their rescue is painful because it shows what happens when animals are allowed to suffer behind closed doors. But it also shows what can happen when a community refuses to look away.

PACC is asking for help not only for the animals rescued from this home, but also for the many dogs already waiting in its care.

These animals survived on barely enough.

Now they need homes, safety, and people who will finally give them enough love to begin again.
