A Birthday on the Cold Ground
Today is my 7th birthday.
But there is no cake, no soft bed, and no gentle hand on my head. I am lying on the hard ground, too hungry and tired to stand.
My legs feel weak. My body feels heavy. I try to lift my head when I hear sounds nearby, but I can only look up and wait.
I Wanted to Walk, But I Couldn’t
I used to run when someone called me. I used to wag my tail when I saw people coming.
Today, I cannot do that.
My paws hurt. My stomach is empty. I want to move closer, to ask for help in the only way I know, but my body will not listen.
So I stay where I am, with my face pressed against the ground.
Waiting for One Kind Person
People pass by, but I do not know if they see me.
I look at them with tired eyes, hoping someone will stop. I do not need much. A little food. A little water. A safe place to rest.
Most of all, I just want someone to care that I am still here.
No Party, No Treat, Just Hunger
Other dogs may get treats on their birthdays. Some may sleep beside their owners and feel loved.
But my 7th birthday is quiet and painful.
There is only hunger in my belly, dust on my fur, and the hope that this day will not end with me still lying alone.
My Small Birthday Wish
I cannot speak like people do.
But if my eyes could ask for one thing, they would ask this:
Please do not walk away.
Today is my birthday, and I am so tired. I only want a chance to feel safe, full, and loved.
